Pullmantur Cruises is the first and the biggest cruise line, based in Spain. Pullmantur began cruise operations in 1990 when chartered one cruise vessel. After the collapse of Premier Cruises in 2000, the Madrid based tour operator Pullmantur acquired their ship Big Red Boat 1 and and started an own cruise line - Pullmantur Cruises. Pullmantur Cruises, through its parent company, was purchased by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. in 2006.

It currently operates five cruise ships - MS Empress (formerly Royal Caribbean Empress Of the Seas), MS Ocean Dream (formerly Pacific Star for P&O Cruises Australia), MS Zenith (acquired from another Royal Caribbean brand - Celebrity Cruises). MS Sovereign (formerly Sovereign Of The Seas for Royal Caribbean) and MV Pacific Dream (formerly Island Cruises' Island Star). The company mainly markets to Spanish - speaking passengers, although cruises aboard Pullmantur ships are sold by travel operators worldwide. Through its parent company the based in Madrid travel agency Pullmantur, the cruise line was purchased by Royal Caribbean in 2006.

Following the acquisition by Royal Caribbean, several transfers were performed between Pullmantur Cruises fleet  and the other Royal Caribbean brands. More changes and ship transfers followed in 2008 and 2009. Royal Caribbean International transferred Monarch of the Seas to Pullmantur Cruises' fleet on April 1, 2019. The Ocean Dream was chartered to Peace Boat to replace the Oceanic, the Pacific Dream/Horizon was transferred to CDF Croisières de France. MS Zenith will join her sister ship L'Horizon sailing under the CDF Croisières de France brand.

Most Pullmantur ships do not operate cruises for the company during the northern hemisphere winter season. Instead, they are either laid up or under charter to other cruise lines, such as the Brazil-based Viagens CVC.
