Founded in 1983, Peter Deilmann Cruises is a privately-owned German company with North American headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. Deilmann used to own and operate 10 river cruise ships throughout Europe, being the second largest river cruise company and one ocean going cruise ship - MS Deutschland. Due to the weak economy, Peter Deilmann shut down their River Cruise Division in 2010. The staff speaks English, German and other languages, but announcements are made only in English and German. English-speaking passengers have their own hostess, and other nationalities will also have one to make private translations. MS Deutschland sails the globe visiting over 200 ports of call from ocean to ocean and across the seven seas. Voyages include a series of 7 to 14-night cruises in the Indian Ocean, Africa, Artic Circle, Baltic, North Sea, Fjords, Mediterranean, Aegean Sea and Trans Atlantic. In December 2002, the MS Deutschland commenced her first 136-night westerly circumnavigation of the world.
