A typical Disney product, new innovative cruise ships and cruises designed to please both children and adults. Disney is also offering cruises combined with three or four days stay at Walt Disney World as a package, which guarantees that the cruises will be sold out. When Disney execs decided to enter the cruise business they looked back to the 1920's for inspiration. As a result, all four DCL cruise ships resemble luxurious ocean liners of a bygone era that just happen to have all the modern bells and whistles. Best of all, Disney Cruise LineŽ proves that "elegant" and "family friendly" don't have to be mutually exclusive terms. Although the ships have the same basic themes, they offer very different itinerary options. Built in 1998 by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, the Disney Magic can hold approximately 2,400 passengers. Since the summer of 2000, the Disney Magic has been offering weekly cruises to Castaway Cay and multiple Caribbean islands. In June 2005, the Disney Magic was dispatched to the West Coast in honor of Disneyland's 50th Anniversary. Beginning April 24, 2010, the Disney Magic returned to the Mediterranean, with 10 and 11-night vacations sailing from Barcelona. In addition, Disney Cruise Line offered 12-night Northern European capitals itineraries, sailing from Dover.

The Magic made two 14-night repositioning cruises, sailing from Port Canaveral to Barcelona on April 10, 2010, and from Barcelona to Port Canaveral on September 18, 2010. In the same year there were also two 8-day repositioning cruises, from Barcelona to Dover on June 5, 2010, returning on July 30, 2010. The Disney Wonder alternated between 3 and 4 night cruises, visiting Nassau and Disney's own private island Castaway Cay, with the 4-night cruise offering an additional day at sea. From May 30 through August 22, 2010, the Disney Wonder sailed on 5-night cruises alternating between an itinerary that added an additional stop at Castaway Cay and an itinerary that added a stop at Key West. When Disney Dream started its sailings out of Port Canaveral in 2011, the Disney Wonder was relocated to Los Angeles, California. The arrangement was for two years, with a potential extension for three additional years. On September 11, 2009 Disney Cruise Line announced that the Wonder will have 18, 7 night sailings to Alaska during the 2011 summer.

The latest addition to the DCL fleet are the sister-ships Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy which entered service in 2011 and 2019. Both vessels are cruising out of Port Canaveral, FL (Disney Fantasy alternates Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraris, while Disney Dream cruises to the Bahamas) and employ over 1400 crew members each.

From employees point of view working for Disney has always been fun and their cruise line is no exception. Lots of shipboard job positions in the entertainment and children / youth activities fields could be found aboard the DCL ships.
