The Financial Services/ Purser’s Division is part of the Hotel Operations Department and is responsible for managing, accounting and auditing all financial operations aboard the cruise ship - Revenue Control, Cost Control, Crew Payroll, Guest Accounts, Currency Exchange and Financial Reporting. Some members of the Financial Services team are serving passengers at the Front Desk in the Atrium (Central Lobby) of the cruise ship, others are taking care of the crew in the Crew Office. The Financial Services Division offers the following cruise ship jobs: Financial Controller, Crew Payroll Manager, Second Purser Administration - Guest Accounts (Accountant), Second Purser Payroll (Staff Accountant), Night Auditor.


Financial Controller

Job description: the Financial Controller is a three stripe officer and reports to the ship's Hotel Director and to the cruise line Head Quarters. The Financial Controller supervises the activities of all subordinate positions within the Financial Services Department such as Second Purser/ Payroll, 2-nd Purser/ Administration, Crew Payroll Manager and Night Auditor. The Financial Controller is in charge of all financial reporting and operations taking place aboard the cruise ship - crew payroll system, cash payments, credit card transactions, money orders, wire transfers etc. His/ her duties could be subdivided into several aspects of accounting management - Revenue Control, Cost Control, Crew Issues and Financial Reporting. The Financial Controller would perform reconciliation of sales on a daily basis in all revenue outlets aboard the cruise ship, spot checking all outlets for accuracy of prices charged and invoices raised. He/ she is responsible for the accounting and accurate dispersal of gratuities and commission to crew members from all departments and divisions on board the cruise ship. The Financial Controller would oversee monthly payroll calculations of departments and personnel as well as reconcile and book all salaries, bonus due, overtime due, expenses due, travel claims, commissions and prepaid tips. He/ she manages income control by reviewing cash flow frequently to reduce yearly cash order by utilizing passengers and crew cash payments, personnel direct deposits and wire transfers, money orders and casino deposits. The Financial Controller maintains a cashbook, recording all cash purchases receipts, spot-checks on a regular basis the accuracy of all inventories taken by the ship's storekeeper in the Food and Beverage storage facilities as well as equipment, consumables and items in circulation. The Financial Controller must approve all purchases in local ports before they are made and ensures that all requisitions and invoices related to purchases of items for use on board the cruise ship are input in the stock control system. He/ she is responsible for submitting a copy of the daily revenue report and food cost report to the ship's Hotel Director as well as for sending to the cruise line head office a daily budget report. Financial Controller Job Requirements: degree in either hotel/ hospitality management, business administration, accounting or other financial discipline is required. Minimum of 2 years previous experience in Financial Management or operational position within the hospitality field. Cruise ship experience is preferred. Strong managerial skills and ability work in a multicultural environment plus knowledge of basic computer software required. Excellent verbal and written command of the English language required. Financial Controller salary range: $4200-5400 U.S. per month, depending on the cruise line and size of the ship.

Crew Payroll Manager

Job description: the Crew Payroll Manager reports to the ship's Financial Controller and directly supervises supports and evaluates the performance of the subordinate Financial Operations division position - Second Purser Payroll. The Crew Payroll Manager is in charge of the entire payroll function aboard the cruise ship and all financially related crew, staff and officers issues. He/ she is responsible for the precise accounting and distribution of prepaid tips to ship's personnel from various onboard departments. The Crew Payroll Manager is involved in guidance and training of managers and head of various departments regarding pre-paid tips reconciliation. He/ she would spend time in the Crew Office dealing with crew direct deposits, wire transfers and checks making sure that all wages are accurately paid, including bonuses and overtime payments. The Crew Payroll Manager is also responsible for preparing all crew shipboard charging account statements, delivery of the statements to ship's various heads of departments in order to be distributed to the crew and charges to be paid on time. The Crew Payroll Manager would provide help in the Crew Office to the Crew Administrator/ Crew Purser during times of work overload (crew sign-in, sign-off etc.) and to the 2-nd Purser Payroll on payday. He/ she would also work in close cooperation with the ship's Human Resources Manager and Training & Development Manager as well as acts as a liaison between the shipboard and cruise line corporate office payroll administration. Crew Payroll Manager Job Requirements: high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum two years in a payroll or accounting processing position within the hospitality industry or financial institution or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Degree in either hotel/ hospitality management, business administration, accounting or other financial discipline is preferred. Cruise ship experience is preferred. Candidates must be proficient in operating basic office equipment, such as calculators, telephones, computers and copy machines as well as internet access, and basic software packages such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Candidates must be able to communicate tactfully with guests and crew/ staff members in order to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions. Excellent communication skills and good command of the English language, knowledge of additional languages is a plus. Second Purser Payroll/ Staff Accountant

Tob description: the 2-nd Purser Payroll reports to the ship's Crew Payroll Manager and directly supervises supports and evaluates the performance of the subordinate Financial Operations/ Purser's division one-stripe officer positions - Junior Assistant Purser/ Night Auditor. He/ she is responsible for assisting the Crew Payroll Manager with the entire payroll function aboard the cruise ship and all financially related crew, staff and officers issues. He/ she assist the Crew Payroll Manager with the precise accounting and distribution of prepaid tips to ship's personnel from various onboard departments and ensures that all pre-paid tips are posted to crew’s payroll records. The 2-nd Purser Payroll is involved in guidance and training of managers and head of various departments regarding pre-paid tips reconciliation. He/ she works in the Crew Office and deals with paying wages, cashing company checks, crew direct deposits and wire transfers, making sure that all wages are accurately paid, including bonuses, pre-paid tips and overtime payments.
