Prestigious cruise line are currently looking to recruit an experienced Fleet Training and Development Manager to work on board their vessels.

Purpose of Role:

The Training and Development Managers’ primary responsibility is the development and implementation of shipboard training strategies, plans, and processes to support organizational goals. The position is responsible for delivering and assessing current and future training needs, creating training and career development programs and evaluating and assisting with the effectiveness of training delivery by managers and supervisors.

Main Tasks and Activities

1. Training and Development - Time Allocation 60%

 Promote Training & Development across the Fleet
 Deliver training to Officers and crew at all levels on board the vessels
 Liaise with training service providers to gain experience and material to deliver on board.
 Maintain awareness of industry standards and best practice;
 Work with on board Managers to identify training & development needs and performance gaps and develop training solutions
 Develop, Plan and Facilitate ‘Train the Trainer’ instructor-led training for on board management.
 Assist, support and coach shipboard Management in the facilitation of on-the-job and technical skills training
 Keep accurate training records and monitor compliance of training requirements
 Liaise with all invested stakeholders to support succession planning, career path identification and tracking to facilitate the development of shipboard employees for promotion opportunities
 Co-ordinate learning support activities to prepare shipboard employees for supervisory /
managerial roles
 Attend meetings, training courses and other work-related activities as required
 Promote Training & Development across the Fleets and deliver training to onboard officers and crew at all levels on board the vessels;
 Develop onboard training to meet current STCW and company standards;

2. Marine Personnel - Time Allocation 20%

 Provide Marine Personnel Manager with recommended strategies relating to training matters
for improvement/compliance.
 Work closely with MPD
 Improvement and development of the Company Safety & Quality Manual (SQM)
 Liaise with Marine Personnel Team with regards to manning/personnel issues raised on board
 Support on board managers and department heads with regards to performance management
through appraisals and career development plans
 Offer advice and training with regards to handling disciplinary matters and executing Masters
Hearings
 Oversee cross training process and records
 Attend OHSSSE and SMT meetings whilst on board and review minutes from other vessels
 Work closely with shore side Training Manager with regards development and delivery of training
materials for use on board

3. Safety, Drills, Meetings - Time Allocation 15%

 Must be familiar with the ship’s “Emergency Plan”, the “Muster List”, the ship’s “Code of Conduct”
and the “SQM”
 Participate in on board familiarisation, drills, Snr Management and Departmental meetings whilst
on board as required
 Maintain awareness and skills to train in Occupational Health and Safety training such as Manual
Handling, Pallet Truck Operation, Personal Protective Equipment
 Observe Safety Drills , Familiarisation, Induction Training and offer advice and guidance
 Observe Training delivered by Offices and offer advice and guidance on training methods.

4. Other - Time Allocation 5%

 Ad hoc duties as required
 May be required to visit 3rd Party Office’s such as manning agents and Hiring Partners
 May be required to spend short periods of training or reporting at FOCL Ipswich and FOCT Oslo

Requirements:

Education and Qualifications

Essential Criteria:
- Good standard of general education
- Minimum STCW Basic Safety requirements
- Excellent knowledge of Office programmes – PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Word

Desirable Criteria:
- Train the trainer qualification Certificate of Competency

Specialist Knowledge and Skills

Essential Criteria:
- Proven experience in public speaking/delivering training programmes

Desirable Criteria:
- Experience of developing training material and presentations

Interpersonal and communication skills

- Excellent spoken and written English
- Ability to communicate with multicultural crew and on a variety of levels
- The ability to coach people and give constructive feedback
- A desire to motivate and develop individuals
- Flexible approach in delivering training in order not to disrupt on board operation
